ISPs may get TRAI nod for Net telephony in India
Internet News
NEW DELHI: In what is the first step towards full-fledged internet telephony in India, telecom regulator TRAI on Monday launched a consultation process to put guidelines in place to pave the way for the opening up of the sector. Currently, Indian regulations do not permit Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to offer internet telephony (internet protocol calls via computer) to terminate on landlines and mobiles within the country.

“Telecom companies have failed to launch internet telephony (also called voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services) as they fear that that this would eat into their revenues. For instance, if ISPs are allowed to launch these services, we can offers ISD at Re 1/minute, STD at less than 50 paise/minute and local calls between 10-15 paise/minute. This is a fraction of the cost offered by the large telcos for similar services,” explained a top official from a leading ISP.

Telecom regulator TRAI too has said that the opening up of the VoIP sector can lead to cheaper tariffs. “Technologies that use the Internet to deliver voice communications have the potential to reduce costs, support innovation, and improve access to communications services within developing countries and around the world resulting in reduced digital divide.

TRAI looks at Carrier Selection for STD/ISD
Internet News
Telecom regulator TRAI on Wednesday initiated a discussion on allowing subscribers of one operator to choose another operator for making long distance (STD and ISD) calls, a move that would feed competition and improve quality of services.

TRAI issued a consultation paper seeking views from all stakeholders on 'carrier selection' that includes the possibility of allowing long distance service providers to issue calling cards.

"When implemented, carrier selection offers customer the capability of selecting the long distance carrier for their STD/ISD calls. This would help the customer in selecting services provider best suited to their specific needs, particularly in terms of price and quality," TRAI said.

Tips for Gaining in Google
Tutorials and Tips By Sharon Housley

Google tends to not rank new domains. In an effort to deter spammers from generating new websites, Google has implemented filters for new websites, which means that it can be a challenge for a new website to rank in Google's organic search results until they are deemed trustworthy.

The Sandbox

Many websites are relegated to what is called "the sandbox" while Google makes a decision about what to do with them. It is strange to think that Google cares, as if Google has some sort of human attributes. Whether Google really cares or not is really not the point -- the point is: there are factors that help Google discern whether a site should be relegated to the sandbox, or whether the site should appear in the organic search results. The factors are all part of Google's algorithm to rank sites, with the ultimate goal being to provide searchers with the best possible search results. Here are some factors that influence whether a site is destined for the sandbox, or is able to join the party...

Performing Better Searches
Tutorials and Tips Performing and perfecting search engine results can save web surfers lots of time and energy. Understanding the nuances of searching allows researchers to immediately drill down and locate the information they are seeking, without having to wade through a myriad of irrelevant search results in the process. The increasing complexity of search engines has made understanding search engines a necessity for those who spend any amount of time online. The following search tips are standards that will work in most of the major search engines.

How To Find What You Are Looking For?

As the popularity of the Internet grows, more and more results are returned for even the most obscure search phrases. In order to save time, web surfers need to increase their search relevancy. It is advisable to use multiple search terms to produce better search results. Searchers should use specific words and phrases to find what they're are looking for, while filtering out irrelevant and unwanted results.

In searching, more usually means less. Using more keywords in a search will help qualify the search and make it more specific to what you are looking for. It is all about striking a balance; more search terms will reduce the number of search results, but those results will be more accurate. Remember that you can always refine the search further if there are too many results returned in the initial search.
